ACA Europe CEO, Ron Weekes joins compliance panel at Goldman Sachs European Hedge Fund Leadership Conference 2011

Ron Weekes joined a distinguished panel consisting of Carlos Conceicao, Partner at Clifford Chance LLP; Michael Raffan, Partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP and Charles Eve, Managing Director, Head of Compliance EMEA, Goldman Sachs. The panel was moderated by Emma Stevens from Prime Brokerage Consulting EMEA, Goldman Sachs.

Attendees at the conference included portfolio managers; operating, finance and risk officers as well as principles from a number of London-based hedge fund management companies.

The panel was titled “Compliance in Action: Compliance Case Studies” and was a study of practical examples of the compliance challenges that can be thrown up in the day to day operation of a hedge fund in today’s increasingly regulated environment. The panel explored a small number of scenarios, with each panel member talking through the issues and the likely regulatory response. The lawyers on the panel added a legal prospective whilst Weekes added a practical viewpoint and commented on what ACA often finds during its compliance reviews in similar situations.

This exchange was very effective and comments afterwards suggested the panel was very well received and added value to the day – which included presentations and panels on legal & regulatory developments, investor relations, tax and accounting, operational risk and the role of the fund administrator.

The day closed with an interesting and inspiring presentation by Sean Fitzpatrick, former New Zealand All Blacks captain.
